How to make a good cappuccino from the machine?
Fancy a really tasty cappuccino? In this article we explain how to make a good cappuccino not only at home but also at work. Making a good cappuccino at home isn’t very complicated. It takes some practice, but once you’ve got the hang of it it’s not that difficult:
1) choose a good bean such as the DE espresso beans medium roast (1kg) or the Meesterschap espresso beans medium roast UTZ
2) start with cold whole milk and froth it well. A nice full milk for this is Globemilk Barista or a cheaper milk-foam variant such as Naarmann whole milk.
3) And your cappuccino is ready.
So much for the home section. You drink most coffee at work and you’ll want a nice cappuccino there too. We regularly get asked how to get a good cappuccino from a coffee machine. Here are a few tips.
Coffee machine with fresh milk.
The tastiest cappuccino is made with fresh milk. Some coffee machines offer this as standard but they are not cheap. For example Douwe Egberts uses the Barista One with fresh milk. A cheaper option is the Philips 3200 EP3246/70. This coffee machine also has a milk jug you can fill with fresh milk. The downside of the Philips 3200 is the limited capacity. It’s ideal for an office with up to 5 employees. That’s why we also see the Philips 3200 often in showrooms and shops. Not much coffee is consumed there, but you do want to offer your customers a really nice cup of bean coffee with fresh milk. Note: if you choose a coffee machine with fresh milk you must allow for extra cleaning. At the end of the day you need to put the parts in the dishwasher. The LatteGo system of the Philips 3200 is appreciated for how easy it is to keep clean.
Coffee machine with cappuccino topping
Unfortunately a coffee machine with fresh milk is not always possible. Refilling fresh milk and cleaning is a daily chore that doesn’t always fit an organisation’s work rhythm. Even then a tasty cappuccino is still possible, but the foam cap is not made with fresh milk but with cappuccino topping. Choosing a good topping is the most important step. The two best-known cappuccino toppings are the Douwe Egberts cappuccino topping and the Meesterschap cappuccino topping. In taste they don’t differ much. In both cases you get a nice full, creamy cappuccino. Only the Meesterschap cappuccino topping is a bit cheaper. An interesting outlier in cappuccino toppings is the Nestlé cappuccino topping, better known as the Nestle dairy whitener powder. They cleverly respond to the trend that cappuccino toppings should contain less sugar. With the Nestle dairy whitener powder low in fat they succeed quite well. This cappuccino topping produces a fairly firm milk foam for the cappuccino.
Coffee machine settings
Not satisfied with the cappuccino from your coffee machine? Take a critical look at the settings of your coffee machine. At wholesale FoodsAndGoods.nl we use the technical service of our parent company FOOX. These technicians are certified by Douwe Egberts and there’s nothing they don’t know about coffee machines. When we speak with the maintenance technicians they often tell us that no coffee machine and no customer is the same. And that coffee machines regularly need cleaning. This also affects the taste.
